What happened on the Yard today.

Campus wires, conference scores, board decisions, endowment news, the culture. One feed that treats 100+ campuses as a single beat instead of a hundred separate ones nobody covers.

One newsroom pointed at a hundred campuses.

No single HBCU generates enough national coverage to sustain a newsroom. All of them together generate far more than anyone is currently reporting. That gap is the whole opportunity.

Syndicated, credited, and filed by a rule you can read.

These are feeds, not scraped pages. A feed is what a publisher produces so other people can syndicate it, and it carries a headline, a link, a date and a summary they wrote for that purpose. That is exactly what appears above: their headline, their summary, their name, and a link back to them. No article body is copied here and nothing is rewritten to read as ours.

16 sources are in the wire. Every one was checked three ways before it was allowed in: its publisher’s robots.txt permits the feed, the URL parses as real RSS or Atom with items in it, and it has published inside the last eighteen months. Several good publications are not here because their robots.txt asks crawlers to stay out, and that is their call to make rather than ours.

Filing is a keyword rule, not a model. Each item above shows the term that routed it, so you can disagree with a filing and see exactly what caused it. A model asked which beat a story belongs to would answer fluently whether or not it read the story, and there would be no way afterward to tell a judgment from a confident guess. This is the same reason the business directory geocodes an address rather than asking a model what state it is in.

Most of what these sources publish is not here. Eleven of them are general Black press or general higher education, and the majority of their work has nothing to do with an HBCU. An item only appears if it names an HBCU, a conference, or the sector itself. A page called On the Yard that was mostly not about the Yard would be a quieter kind of dishonesty than an invented fact, but the same family.

Named sources, dated corrections, no rewritten press releases.

Community media earns its position by being trusted at the moment it says something uncomfortable about an institution people love. That only works if the standard is set before the first hard story, not after.
